Research and Analysis Newspaper Ad

Tv channels try and advertise their channel and programmes as much as possible. Ways in which companies do this is are billboards, tv advertising, magazines and newspapers. The main way that they do this is by publishing their adverts in magazines and newspapers.

This is a screen shot of the suns online website, you can view the newspaper without actually buying a newspaper just from looking on the world wide web. The layout of this is the same as an newspaper, the main title of the page is at the top of the page and then the main story is in the centre. The main image is the centre picture showing todays headline, here it is from the xfactor. Obviously here on a website you can click to view other pages rather than flicking through like an ordinary newspaper.
Technology these days are so high tech it is taking over the whole concept of reading a book.

This is a photo I have taken of a whole page from the Sun newspaper of a load of adverts. The newspaper even has full page spreads of adverts in their newspaper purely for the money. A newspaper can charge up to £250 for a quarter page advertisement in their newspaper and companies are willing to pay because they want their names out on the market. You can see from the page that they are all advertising something whether it is a deal, pure advertisement to the company or selling a product. The Sun has also used different types of font and sized letting to sell their advertisement. The different in sizes are down to how much the company wanting to advertise are willing to pay, how ever much they offer the Sun, the sun will return in the size of the advertisement.
If you look at the picture on the left the main advert you see is the Great Choice advert for the phone network company 3. The advert doesn't have much colour as it is printed in black and white but the bold letting of the title Great Choice stands out the the person reading the paper. Also the prices are in bubbles with the phones next to them so it is clear how much the phones are. It gives its point across to the audience which is what an advert is meant to do. Also above this advert is another advert for the same company but it is even larger than the other. The title reads Big Deal in larger typography because they are providing so Big Deals within the company, the letting is very bold and large which means it stands out on the page. In the far right corner is a circle and within the circle reads a  price of £18. This is what the company is trying to get across to the audience. To make this advert better I think the company 3 should ad a little bit of colour to make the advert stand out more. People are attracted to colour rather than just plain black and white. They have also used convergence in their advert as they have got on their advert a telephone number and also an email address. All across the bottom of the page are smaller adverts, this is due to the fact that they have given less money so the printers. In a way having a smaller advert can be a good thing because the reader then has to look closer and in more detail at the advert but I believe bigger is better as people go to what strikes them first. The layout of this page in my opinion looks very cluttered and the adverts are all to close together and it doesn't really attract me in.

Here are two different sized adverts from two major companies in the supermarket industry. Tesco and Morrisions are huge in the supermarket shopping industry yet they still advertise in many newspapers. Sometimes on the bottom of their ads they may give out half price vouchers or some sort of voucher or prize to draw you into shopping at their market. The advert on the left is for Morrisons. The Morrisons advert attracts me more because of the size of their picture and the colours are very bright. The picture is of creates on alcohol that they are selling cheap in the store. Also the use of the red Pay Less writing in the top left corner attracts me in because people are looking for the best deals at their local supermarkets. One problem I see in this advert is that they have only printed their logo down the bottom of the page in very small print. The logo is not very noticeable so they are putting on a good deal but no one knows who is advertising. The advert on the right is for Tesco. The first thing you see is their slogan, 'Every little helps'. This is a good way of attracting the audience in because it is a slogan that everyone can recognise and relate to with tesco. Also tesco have their own colour scheme of blue and red which they have clearly used in they advert in this newspaper as the writing is in blue and red. Also they have used more blue and red down the bottom of the page for boxes that outline more writing. The long box at the bottom is red with white writing so that the writing clearly stands out and it is also sticking with their colour scheme. The writing in the box says Double Club-card Points Too. This is saying if you take this offer up from this advert you will get double club-card points next time you shop. I found these adverts in the Daily Mail which is based more at the adult audience. This is why I found these adverts in this paper because it is based at the adult audience and most adults have children and will be looking for deals at the local supermarket for food etc.

Here is the Tesco logo in the Sun newspaper. They advertise this logo as much as they can and here it is on a the bottom right hand corner of a half page spread. The main thing I see when i look at this logo is that it is separate to the rest of the advert. It stands out on its own and it also sticks to the colour scheme of the ads.
