Double Page Spread

This is after one hours work on my double page spread. For the first few minutes on working on my double page spread i worked out on a piece of paper how i am going to layout my double page spread and what is appropriate to include.

Expanding on my double page spread i have added more writing and added pictures too. The pictures i have added are, myself down in the bottom right corner above the word launch. I have done this because when you open a magazine this is the first thing you will see which means that people will be attracted to read more as the picture stands out. Also the picture of myself doing a breakdance move adds to theme of my channel which is urban music and dance, it also looks like i am balancing on the world LAUNCH itself thanks to photoshop editing. The other picture i have added is a photo of a girl posing in ballet clothing. The ballet does not relate to the theme but the girl posing looks sinister and some what seductive. Also i have edited the colour of the picture to black and white which then adds to the colour scheme of my website. Using the red colour on the font makes it stand out well on the double page spread as from researching these the most commonly used colours are white, black and red. I did not know this when i chose the colour scheme, i simply happened to use the most commonly used colours anyway. I have also located the date of the launch underneath the main picture in the bottom right of the page as this is the first area the public will see. I have also so far added to my double page spread my programme list from the launch day and also my website address.

I have added a few more images to my double page spread and they have been placed where i believe is suitable. I have added an image from the SCX website as they are free downloads and are allowed for public use. These images include a retro television to show that it is a TV channel launch. I have now placed relevant information about the channels launch in the TV screen to give it a modern effect. Another I added was a retro tape recorder as it adds to the Urban theme of the website and channel. I then did a special effect using another image of music notes. I edited them to make it look like they are being blasted out of recorder. Also i have angled the recorder so it also looks like the word LAUNCH is coming out of recorder also. My double page spread is now near completion. Only a few more minor things left to do.

This is the final version of my double page spread but I noticed an important feature had not saved onto this so I will have to create this feature one more time. This feature is simply one line added onto the advertisement but it is an important line. "Not only urban music though, urban dance too".

This is the final version of my double page spread and as you can see from my pre-final version i have changed the background colour from just a blank white canvas to a black and white checked flooring theme. I have decided to do this because it fills the page more and also the colour scheme matches the theme or urban music and dance. I have also done this because black and white flooring is the typical colour scheme for break dancers as this has originated from the 80's. I am considering whether to use the red writing in the centre though as it is slightly difficult to see but then this may get my audience to look closer into my advert causing them to pay more attention to what my channel is about. Another thing I have done is that I have roughly cut around all the straight edges to make it look more urban and not so neat and tidy. I made this final slight change after receiving feedback on my previous final version. Overall I am very pleased with the outcome of my double page spread considering this is my first experience of Photo shop elements.

  1. Zack you have kept to the colour scheme of your website, which is the convention. We discussed the image of the girl and you thought it was appropriate, perhaps you might like to re-consider this as it may not be representative of your channel. I do like your image launching from the word "Launch" this is creative. Please consider the middle part of the magazine as this will fold. Will the writing still be fully readable? You have included the website address, have you considered drawing people to the site for a competition?
